Barb Jarvar Hoepner writes:

In January of 2006 a newborn Asian child was abandoned by the police station in southern China. Female, with a cleft lip and palate, she had a rough start in life. Wrapped in dirty rags and unable to suck, her future looked grim. She was destined to enrich our lives beyond belief.

In the summer of 2007 our daughter and son-in-law traveled to China to meet their new daughter on “Gotcha day.”

Based on three photos and a medical evaluation, they had made the decision to accept this child as theirs. From the very beginning it was obvious that she would fill all of our lives with joy. She came to us with a personality filled with self assurance, resilience and a delightful sense of humor.

This fall she started Kindergarten and Grandma got her up on a pony for the first time. When people say she is lucky, we say that we are the lucky ones.
