Robert A. Dole

Robert A. Dole, age 69, of Eau Claire, Wis., passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

"Bob" was born April 10, 1941, in Green Bay, Wis., to the late Harold and Grace (Brown) Dole. He lived in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., through his junior year in high school. In 1958, he moved to Eau Claire with his family, graduating from Memorial High School in 1959. Bob attended UW-Eau Claire. He first taught at Cudahy High School and then moved to Green Bay and taught history, economics, political science, and geography at Denmark High School. Bob began his sales career in Madison, Wis., before returning to Eau Claire where he pursued a career in real estate sales. He also taught marketing at CVTC. Prior to retirement, Bob became part owner of the Scrub Hub and the Little Super Store on Golf Road in Eau Claire.

Bob loved hunting and fishing. Since age 13 he never missed an opening day of deer hunting. Traveling was a passion throughout his life. He and Sonjia enjoyed frequent trips throughout the United States and Mexico as well as wintering in the South and the Southwest in their retirement. Spending time with his family was an important part of Bob's life. He especially enjoyed sharing memories of all the good times spent with his wife, parents, sisters and younger brother, Jim. He loved to tell stories and with his keen memory, he never missed a detail. His family will miss dearly his story telling.

Bob is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sonjia (Edison) Dole; sisters, Wendy (John) Baker of Eleva, Wis., and Kathy (Tom) Anderson of Green Bay; sisters-in-law, Eunice Hawkenson, Yvonne (Duane) Borgwardt and Judy (Lee) Loomis; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Jim.

The family wishes to thank both his physicians and the Sacred Heart Hospital staff for their kind and loving care.
