Janet Lorentz
ARDMORE, Okla. ― Janet Marie Lorentz, 49, of Ardmore, Okla., and
formerly of Eau Claire, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1991 at Ardmore.
She was born in Eau Claire on Sept. 25, 1941, the daughter of the late W. Thomas and
Winifred M. (Reetz) Targart. She attended Eau Claire schools and graduated from St.
Olaf's College in Northfield, Minn., with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She
married Robert L. Lorentz at Eau Claire on Aug. 18, 1963, and since 1970 resided in
Ardmore. Services in Ardmore were held Friday.
After moving to Oklahoma, she earned a master's degree in nursing at the University
of Oklahoma, and she was presently completing course work for a Ph.D. in nursing at
the Texas Women's University. She was currently the associate director of Nursing
Licensure for the Oklahoma Board of Nursing Registration and Nursing Education.
She was chairwoman of the Nursing Department at Murray State College of Oklahoma
from 1982-88. In her honor, Murray State College established the Janet Lorentz Award
to be given to an outstanding nursing graduate each year. She was active in the
Oklahoma Nurses Association; past president of the Oklahoma League of Nursing;
member of Sigma Theta Tau Honorary Nursing Society; past president and member of the
Oklahoma Board of Registration and Education. In 1990 she received an honorary
recognition award from the Oklahoma Nursing Association for distinguished service to
the nursing profession.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons, Robert Jr. and Thomas, both of
Ardmore; a daughter, Shannon Marie Lorentz of Oklahoma City; and an aunt, Winnifred
Parcell of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Local services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with Rev.
Roland H. Hansen officiating. Burial will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Smith Funeral Chapel, and also for one
hour before services Monday at church. |
