From the Eau
Claire Leader-Telegram
Judy Schmidt
Judy Schmidt passed away at home on Sept. 13, 2009, with her family at her
side, and her beautiful spirit began a new journey into the loving embrace
of her Creator. Judy's passing, like her life, was a celebration of a life
well lived.
She was born July 27, 1941, in Durand, the daughter of Richard and Betty
Harschlip Finn. She attended Lincoln Elementary, Eau Claire Junior High,
Memorial High School and Wisconsin State College-Eau Claire. Judy worked
for 31 years at Parkside Elementary School in Fond du Lac, where she found
joy in discovering the best in each child she encountered. The foundation
of her life was her family. Her gentleness, kindness and generosity were
woven into every aspect of their lives.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Thomas; her three children,
Peter (Charlene) of Mosinee, David of Stockton, Calif., and Jenny of Fond
du Lac; one sister, Patti (Jim) of Williamsburg, Va.; and one brother,
Gary (Deb) of Menomonee Falls. Judy's two grandchildren, Katie, daughter
of Peter and Charlene, and Everett, son of Jenny, filled her life with
boundless joy and pride. She is also survived by her father, Richard Finn
of Eau Claire; her mother-in-law, Gladys Schmidt of Chippewa Falls; her
aunt, Shirley (Ray) Lawrence of Mondovi; uncles, Stanley Finn of
California, and Jack Finn (Barbara) of West Salem.
Preceding her in death were her mother, Betty Druschel; and her
stepfather, Arthur Druschel.
Judy had many talents and interests, including rosemaling, chair caning,
gardening, basket making, physical fitness, genealogy and cooking. In her
retirement years, she and Tom enjoyed traveling; but even more, she valued
the times she spent with her family, especially being an integral part of
her grandchildren's lives.
Her smile was a radiant source of warmth and happiness and will hold a
special place in the heart of all of those fortunate enough to have known
her. She will be missed and never forgotten.
